kaia's notes (6/11/2025) :
hi people, I made this game in about 6 days for funsies. Originally I made it last weekend for a 48 hour jam. The jam version kinda sucked ass, there was zero strategy it was just how fast can u buy cards and throw it in the sell box. So I've spent the last 4 days polishing it up into something a little more presentable. To be honest, while this version is better its still kind of mid. I've never made a game like this and balancing it was pretty challenging for me (having ur mechanics rely heavily on RNG sucks ass never do it). I think it's decent enough tho that a couple people at least will get a kick out of it.
I am pretty happy with myself though, I've tried to do 48 hour jams before and I usually bomb them, either from overscope, or getting discouraged part way though. I did this one tho!! Jams are fun, its good to try and make something outside of your comfort zone every once in a while, I'll prolly try and do some more small jams and whatnot this year.
Some of yall maybe be wondering; What's the next big project? The answer to that is.... uuhhh... uummm....

Hey! Neat game~
I like the feel of the pack opening and managing the cards.

I also like the general aesthetic. It's very clean and polished!

.. I also like the news events that occur! It reminds me

Some ideas / suggestions while playing the game.

1. Might be good to have a quick hover to see the cost of the card without having to drag it to the sell pile. Or the ability to quickly see the stocks with a shortcut key or something~

2. I think the news since it happens every other day. It could be a popup and freeze the game temporarily, to let the player rest and gain their composure before having to sell again in a frenzy. (Given you have enough news content). It might also be neat to have some events with choices in there as well. like people trying to scalp you a booster set (which might be worth it at times) and you can choose whether to buy it off them or not. It could also lead to more interactivity with the world or world building.

Cheers and wish you luck.

it does pause time while youre reading the news, for accessibility reasons. Right now the post jam version has hotkeys for the different menus, but you still have to check the individual card prices. I'm against adding a quick way to see the values, since I want it to feel like FNAF in a way where you've gotta stressfully check the prices like you would the cameras in freddy fatbear

49 days but I cant stop to read stock charts :(

Time should really slow down when looking at stock charts. There needs to be a faster way to select cards. Drag over to move multiple would be good

it's supposed to be tedious, its part of the challenge. the game is generally too hard tho

I get that some tedium is intentional for difficulty, but tedium from overall gameplay loops are much more fun than vs physical actions (like slow, repetitive UI tasks). If a challenge is not rewarding and doesn't add any strategy, it is just a hindrance.
In roguelikes, for example, the repetitive gameplay loop is engaging because each run is different and the choices matter.
But if the tedium comes from having to press one skill 100 times or slowly select things one by one, it doesn’t feel like a rewarding challenge—it just feels like busywork.

the real problem is that the game in it's current state really just asks you to buy and sell over and over again, that's where the tedium comes from. Post Jam version I'm trying to add more things to do with the cards on the board instead.

Also, I did add a "magnet finger" upgrade in the shop that gives you the ability to grab multiple cards at once

I got to day 20 until I got into debt with 0 inventory and went bankrupt :( Need to practice my scalping skills

Taxes eat all my money until I even understand what happening. Feels like IRL! XD
