v0.13


This is the biggest update so far and I'm positive it will be beat again very soon. I'm very happy with everything added in this update and I think it's a MAJOR step forward in getting this thing to look more like a real game. Next update will most likely be a technical one, I want to work on game saves, reimplement system generation, handling player death, etc. The game is still completely silent too, I might make an entire update dedicated to just adding sounds.

Changes:

  • Added a wooden door that can be opened and shut.
  • Added glass and glass background walls.
  • Allowed for the ability for certain crafting recipes to require crafting "stations".
  • Added the work bench, required for crafting basic items and tools.
  • Added the furnace, used to craft glass and ingots.
  • Added copper bar crafted at the furnace.
  • Added copper sword and copper pickaxe that can be crafted at the workbench, stronger than flimsy tools.
  • Added gold ore and gold bars.
  • Added golden sword and golden pickaxe that can be crafted at the workbench, stronger than copper tools.
  • Added iron ore and iron bars, which only spawns near the core of the planet.
  • Added iron sword and iron pickaxe that can be crafted at the workbench, stronger than gold tools.
  • Copper, gold, and iron bars can all be placed as a block. The copper block will slowly oxidize and turn green.
  • Added a mallet that replaces the flimsy hammer, used to break background walls.
  • Breaking a background wall with a hammer now drops a wall item, assuming the item for that wall exists.
  • Added new ladders that can be climbed by right clicking. Missing an animation still.
  • Added a pretty lily :) 
  • Added gravel that will spawn in caves and falls like sand.
  • Added a stone brick crafted at furnaces, as well as stone brick background walls.
  • Added debug commands, press Enter to open it, and Enter again to use typed command.
  • Current commands are as follows:
    • "fullbright" : toggles game lighting.
    • "give <id> <amount>" : can give the player any item currently implemented. Be advised that item ids are all over the place.
    • "ship" : spawns the ship at the mouse cursor. old ship spawn key has been removed.
    • "tick <amount>" : advances global time by a given amount of ticks.
    • "time" : prints current global time in ticks.
    • "zoom <amount>" : sets the camera zoom, 1.0 default.
  • Rewrote how light layering works, no longer uses shitty green chroma key hack crap fuck
  • New background system will allow for more interesting and dynamic backgrounds.
  • New day / night cycle, make sure to make torches! Currently days last 10 minutes (5m day, 5m night).
  • Forest planet and sun now have backgrounds unique to them.
  • Game now supports semi transparent textures.
  • There's a nice lil drop shadow on tiles and entities now. Subject to change.
  • Water is now a more vibrant blue.
  • The multi-tile code from last update was REALLY bad and I didn't notice until now. It has been fixed.
  • Copper ore spawn rate has been tweaked.
  • Praffin texture has been slightly tweaked.
  • A ship in outer space will now align itself upright and can no longer be manually turned.
  • Leaving a planet and returning will no longer cause tiles to render over entities.
  • Fixed oversight bug where leaving water without holding jump would cause the player to jump anyways.
  • Fixed oversight bug where planets larger than 64 chunks would place cave air at the incorrect height.
